Typical Jack Layton, all puff and bluster when it's safe to do so. In the last session of Parliament he got a safe ride because the Liberals were in no position to bring down the government. In fact they still aren't but Harper's had enough of their gotcha games and threats to bring his government down. He's called their bluff and with good reason.

The way things are shaping up for the Liberals, Jack may end up Official Opposition.

The master of verbosity and animosity from Newfoundland, Danny Williams, is going to work against Harper, something he may live to regret. One would think if he's so smart he could control his extreme vindictiveness.
He sure surprised me, I thought he had a brain with the power to reason. Apparently not.

I note that the logo and color of the NDP on the header are the same as the last election but Jack Layton referred to his party as the "NEW democrats". Could Jacko be trying to tie his wagon to the American party of the popular OBAMA? Socialist Party members on our streets, with Messiah complexes, campaigning door to door, in Canada, we are not making this up...

I don't agree this is a good ad, particularly the line about family doctors, which is a result of the type of socialized medicine Layton advocates (IOW, that is his fault and his doctrinaire approach to Health Care). It's also an obvious "American style" attack ad. Harper will easily counter this kind of message.

The main problem with this ad is its ineffectiveness. If he is trolling for Conservative votes, then he is kidding himself. Only eight people in Canada switch from CPC to NDP, and they live on Saltspring Island and don't vote (just kidding, eh).

Layton is perhaps the most strategically challenged party leader in modern history. His vote will come from Green, Bloc and Grit voters. Those are the ones he should be going after. He will be gone as leader after next election; he just put his head on a block and his party will chop it off.

Layton conveniently forgets to mention that it was an NDP premier who created Ontario's shortage of doctors.

I don't know,it seems ok .
I don't think the message is earth shattering,more like the same old same old NDP message.
"Corporation bad,me good.I stop bad corporation."
I can see some kind of appeal to the Liberal voter which is exactly where he's going with this message.

It's going to be a fun one. I really, really hope that the harper team has a good script like last time though. Down in the fever swamps the regular joes aren't sure what this election is about yet. If Harper comes out every day with good script that's what the election will be about once again. He's got to remind people about the accomplishments too because they forget already. An Obama-esque speech would do wonders too. Talk a lot about nothing but "change".

For the NDP to have any kind of success they will have to collect from the liberal left-wing vote.They certainly will not collect from the Conservative that is a given. So the more success the NDP has the more success our Conservative party will have.

What the hell was that? Vote for me I am wimpier than Dion. All that money the ndp are spending will get Jack Layton replacing Mr. Rogers, but that is all it is going to do. People want strong leadership, they will vote for Harper. Canadians want someone with backbone, and they find it amusing to watch the other two party leaders prance around in their tutus kissing make belief butterflies, to show us just how weak they really are.

Um, does Jack know that a shortage of doctors falls under the responsibility of Provincial governments? Well, Jack probably does, but he's counting on the idea that most Canadians are too stupid to realize this.

Ad starts out, Harper is a strong leader, says that a coupld of time, and by then the viewer is going for a beer or can. Message, Layton supports Harper as a strong leader.

Mary, that is what I got from the ad also,Stephen Harper is a strong leader. The emphasis on the ad is that message.In this day and age of bits and bytes, it is the first 30 seconds that count. It is like the clever "Dion is not a leader". There is no one that believes Dion is a leader, or ever could be a leader. Jack knows the ndp haven't a chance to form a government, but there is a chance that they will become the official oppostion if the liberal party is wiped out.

The thing that bothers me about ads like this one is the numbers:
Fifty billion in corporate tax cuts? where can I check those figures?

I notice that our politicians don't use the American tag line "My name is _____ and I approved this message." Is it because they want to have a certain degree of deniability, in case what is said is proven to be untrue?

When I once told a psychology professor that I thought Mr. Rogers was a dork, he said, "Watch a four-year-old watch Mister Rogers."

When my daughter turned four, that's just what I did and I watched him too. I went from disenchanted to "well, he's not that bad," to being a big fan.

These ads will not hurt the CPC and here is why: people that resonate with the NDP are already committed or would vote liberal. If anything these ads are designed to take votes for the LPC which is good for the CPC. Will the NDP break through in this election? I doubt it since the greenies are breathing down their backs and they really don't have much room to move sandwiched between the greens on one side and the liberals on the other. Maybe the NDP actually believes it can take voters from the CPC or the soft middle? This is not possible until we actually hear what the NDP does stand for unlike their usual diatribe against anything status quo.

The last two election campaigns the NDP told us that a Harper government would ban abortions, remove protections for gay rights, dismantle our health care systems, push Quebec out of this country, get Canada involved in Iraq, and dozens of other things. None of those things happened, or were even mentioned as possibilities (by Conservatives at least). At some point they lose their credibility, no?
